Before we had children, Mark and I traveled to
Spain
.
Besides touring the museums, cathedrals,
and marketplaces, we ventured to the Barcelona Zoo.
As we passed one of the cages, Mark casually said, “Look, there’s a white
gorilla.”
I responded indifferently,
“That’s nice.
Let’s go look at the
giraffes.”
Later, we learned that the gorilla, Snowflake, was the only white gorilla in the
entire world. People traveled for miles
to see this special animal, yet we had failed to notice that there was anything
even a bit extraordinary about Snowflake.
Matthew
1:23
says, “God is with us,” but like our experience with the white gorilla, it’s easy
to overlook the extraordinary presence of God in our lives.
The Spirit Today represents my growing
awareness of God among my ordinary suburban life of marriage, children, and work. It contains reflections on the weekday
readings and their connections to real life.
Please come back and visit, so that we can seek the Spirit together.
We may be amazed to discover how often the white gorilla, God, appears among
our chaotic lives. God is with us!
